Napier Wagon Trails

Napier Pony camp GPS CO ORDINATES - South 34 29 22” - East 19 53 47”

About Us

From our years of outfitting wilderness pack trips, we realize that many people wish to have a genuine outdoor experience but cannot spend the time or do not feel qualified to undertake such a strenuous expedition. By our authentic re-creation of pioneer covered wagon trains of yesteryear, travelling through the most scenic areas in Southern Africa, we can bring you the thrill of reliving history.  (Our trails are guided by a trail boss whose word is law at all times, ensuring safety for all, including our crew).

This wagon is not a replica of a pioneer covered wagon train as used by early settlers, but one built for comfort and practicality. Wagons are pulled by gentle teams and driven by yourself. For your comfort, wagons have rubber tyres and cushions for the seats. Double bed built inside the wagon. The khaki wagon cover protects you from the sun and the occasional shower. Gentle riding horses are furnished for those who wish to ride. Guided trail rides explore the surrounding wilderness. (For the safety of all our guests, we have a back up vehicle with us at all times).

This is also the only wagon trail in the world that accommodates geo-caching.

The Trip

-

We meet the night before at  the start of the trail in Napier (2 hours from Cape Town), where you will meet the wagon master, the crew and your fellow guests.  You will then go through an orientation for your trip, given your wagon or/and fitted to your saddle.

Starting time for the trail is 9am sharp

Rest stops and lunch breaks will provide the time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Wagon covers can be drawn back to give you a full view of the passing scenery.  You may escort the wagon train on a gentle riding horse for an extra fee.

You reach the camp site and form a laager in late afternoon to allow a little relaxation time before you cook your supper.  Each family is responsible for cooking their own meals over the communal fire.

Guests sleep in their wagon, in a tent, or under the stars

The Area
