The Castle of Good Hope the oldest European building in Southern Africa, centrally situated in the heart of Cape Town houses the Cape Town Carriage operation.

Our 16 Seater copy of a Victorian omnibus provides 4 guided historical tours a day that encompass the Company’s Garden and most of the major tourist spots located within the Cape Town CBD.

This unique method of exploring Cape Town provides the time and a different view of some of South Africas premier historical and architectural locations.

The operating times of the carriage vary dependant on season, but during high season Oct-Mar leaves the Castle front quad at the following times:

The tour is guided and your guide will provide a detailed and interesting narrative, about the history and occurances that happened within Cape Towns wide and varied History.

The Tour takes approximately 75 minutes (dependant on traffic) and the tour times are scheduled to allow visitors to the Castle to experience the free tours around the Castle prior of after there tours.

The tour passes the following points of interest and stops for approximately 10 minutes to explore a lirttle of the Companmnys Gardens at the junction of Museum Road and Government Avenue.

Route
Leave the Castle Entrance at Castle St. and proceed up Buiterkant St. we then turn right into Albertus St. across the junctions of Parade St. up to Corporation St and turn right, and then left into Moste St. Cross Plain and Parliament Streets and pass the Church square. We then turn left into Adderley Street and straight into the Avenue of the Company Gardens.Just before the right turn into the University we stop for a 10-15 minute break.

After the refreshment break we leave the Company Gardens at the Victoria St. Exit, turn right and proceed down to Wale Street, till we join up with Adderley Street we proceed down Adderley St. and go around the circle and fountain at Hans Strydom Avenue. We travel back up Adderley St. until reaching Darling St. where we turn left we follow Darling St. past the Parade and turn left into Castle Street and back into the Castle through the Main Entrance
